Back in the day ...

... way back before Blue-Ray, digital, or even DVDs ...
... we had a video cassette recorder/player.
You know, the old VHS VCR thing.

I can even go waaaay back to my high school days when we had a BetaMax.  Remember those?  I would set it every morning before school to record General Hospital.  Then I'd keep my fingers crossed that my mom wouldn't come home for lunch and turn it off.  I still have the tape of the episode where Luke was mayor, drinking on the balcony of the mayor's mansion, and Laura (whom he thought was dead and gone) comes walking up the front lawn.  That was true daytime drama there.  Of course I can't view that tape since I'm pretty sure there isn't a BetaMax player in existence anymore.  But hey there's YouTube ... I bet that clip is on there!

Anyhow ... where am I going with all this?
Oh yeah ... well I've been cleaning out closets and trying to get rid of a bunch of junk.  Our VCR died a long time ago, yet we still had a huge  box of VHS tapes.  Tons of Disney movies from when my oldest was a toddler.  I was so close to chucking them all.  Then my aunt gave me her old VCR (although it's practically new since she barely used it).

And look what I found!
Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
I LOVE this video.  When my oldest was younger we would watch it daily.
And sing along.

Of course I could probably get it on DVD now, but there's something so retro about watching a tape.  Now we get to experience it all over again with my 4-year old.  Who loves to sing and is destined for Broadway, I'm sure.
Good thing I saved all those tapes, huh?

Do you still have a VCR?

p.s.
yup ... it's on YouTube

DO NOT JUDGE...
But I taped Luke and Laura's wedding. Back in the day. I was all of 7 years old.

Still have it.

As well as all the weddings of the supercouples on Days of Our Lives...Bo and Hope, Roman and Marlena, Shane and Kimberly, Steve and Kayle...

I am now waxing nostalgic!

(p.s. Welcome to Twitter!)

I do have one of those combo DVD/VHS things. We thought about ditching it when we move, though, since we have gotten rid of our tapes, but our home movies are all on VHS. So we have to think about moving them to another format. Ugh!

Am I the only one in the world who has never seen Donny's version of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat?" In fact, the only thing I ever saw was a shorted version of it through Children's Musical Theater and Jenna Teter was in it. Loved that.

Yes, I remember buying our first VCR and I'm SICK that all the little videos that were so DEAR to my heart when the kids were toddlers are almost all too degraded in their tape quallity to watch anymore! Goodbye, Arky, Barney, Hide 'em in Your Heart, etc. WAaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Our first VCR was $600 twenty years ago. Isn't that amazing?!

I totally remember you taping all those episodes. I was still hooked on AMC those days. We have a VHS/DVD combo right now, since we still have a lot of VHS tapes. We're just stuck in the stone-age. Or, as I like to put it "technilogically apathetic!"

We have combo units. But I don't think we have any VHS tapes anymore. I think I sold them all at consignment sales over the years.
