Back in the day ...

... way back before Blue-Ray, digital, or even DVDs ...
... we had a video cassette recorder/player.
You know, the old VHS VCR thing.

I can even go waaaay back to my high school days when we had a BetaMax.  Remember those?  I would set it every morning before school to record General Hospital.  Then I'd keep my fingers crossed that my mom wouldn't come home for lunch and turn it off.  I still have the tape of the episode where Luke was mayor, drinking on the balcony of the mayor's mansion, and Laura (whom he thought was dead and gone) comes walking up the front lawn.  That was true daytime drama there.  Of course I can't view that tape since I'm pretty sure there isn't a BetaMax player in existence anymore.  But hey there's YouTube ... I bet that clip is on there!

Anyhow ... where am I going with all this?
Oh yeah ... well I've been cleaning out closets and trying to get rid of a bunch of junk.  Our VCR died a long time ago, yet we still had a huge  box of VHS tapes.  Tons of Disney movies from when my oldest was a toddler.  I was so close to chucking them all.  Then my aunt gave me her old VCR (although it's practically new since she barely used it).

And look what I found!
Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
I LOVE this video.  When my oldest was younger we would watch it daily.
And sing along.

Of course I could probably get it on DVD now, but there's something so retro about watching a tape.  Now we get to experience it all over again with my 4-year old.  Who loves to sing and is destined for Broadway, I'm sure.
Good thing I saved all those tapes, huh?

Do you still have a VCR?

p.s.
yup ... it's on YouTube

When it rains ...

It dumped buckets here last night.
Thunder.
Lightning.
The whole show.
I love it!

Hubby was flying in from Houston,
thankfully he was ahead of most of the activity.

Once he was home, we sat down to watch American Idol that we had recorded.
Then ...
FLASH
BANG
DUMP
... it let loose!
The dog started jumping and barking.
Our almost 4-year old bolts out of bed and comes running.
And American Idol went over it's time slot and we missed Adam Lambert's performance.  Thank goodness for YouTube!

So ... do you know what movie this photo is from?  It's one of my favorites.
Do you like storms?
Are you watching American Idol?  Who's your pick?

Max and Ruby

Do you know Max and Ruby?
This is my almost 4-year old's favorite show.
And I have to admit, it's one of my favorites too.

This brother and sister pair are just too cute for words.  Max is a curious, active and clever little guy.  Ruby thinks she is the mature and wise older sister.  She usually thinks she knows what's best but many times Max ends up showing her a new way to look at things.

Max and Ruby have a charming grandma that shows up every now and then, usually with some ice cream.  What they don't seem to have are parents.  Minor detail I suppose in the bunny world.  A bunny world where they live in a house of their own.  Where Max can drive a little car ... Ruby bakes cakes and hosts Bunny Scout meetings ... they take a bus across town ... go shopping ... attend the carnival.
All by themselves!
I'm guessing I'm the only one that notices these things because my 4-year old doesn't question it.  But then again, she also likes a show where a hamster, chick and turtle sing and travel all over the world saving animals in distress.  Nothing wrong with that.

I appreciate the imagination involved.

The show is based on the books by Rosemary Wells.

Here are 2 of our favorites ...

We own both of these books.  Yet every time we go to the library my little one insists on checking them out.  Isn't that funny?

After an over abundance of Dora the Explorer, Max and Ruby is a welcome new favorite.
I think I may have a theme for the next birthday party!
Woohoo
